Clothes dryers are found in nearly every home, yet many homeowners don’t realize how much of a fire hazard an unmaintained dryer vent system can become. Each year in the United States, roughly 16,000 home fires are connected to dryers or dryer vent systems, with the failure to clean the vents being the leading cause. Lint is extremely flammable, and restricts airflow when it builds up inside the dryer or vent system. This causes dryers to overheat, work harder than necessary, and operate less efficiently.
